Kit Home Decoration: Build a Ground Level Deck

Written by on July 14, 2009 – 11:38 am -

There are many different resources that can be found online to build a deck. There are various plans for different styles of decks, as well as tips on how to build the decks without using a builder to do so.There are many different types of decks as well as regulations about what types of decks can be built in a particular area. There are building codes that help to maintain the safety of the different types of decks, especially those that are built high in the air, or that lead up to a pool. There are plans that help people to build a ground level deck which does not come more than a foot or two above the surface of the ground.  Often these ground level decks are built to provide a place to sit and eat as well as provide decoration to kit homes and yard.

Plans

There are many different styles of ground level decks that can be built – almost as many as can be imagined by the kit homes owner. There are software applications that can be found online and in home improvement stores that allow individuals to play around with the different plans for building a ground level deck so that they can figure out what type would be best for their particular kit home.It is a good idea to use these applications as well as look through home improvement magazines for different examples of decks. In this way the individuals can really narrow down the styles that appeal to them so that they can choose the ground level deck that suits them.

There are some ground level decks built that have planters in them. There is often one step down from the deck to the ground and these planters are placed on the corners of the deck and stairs.  Other ground level decks that are built will use a bench to help to form the perimeter of the deck.Often these benches will have planters built into them or will have some sort of storage compartment in them so that different materials can be placed in them. The ground level decks that are built are often made from materials other than wood or vinyl.  Since these decks sit at ground level, they are often built with stone or tile to create a different, decorative look to them.In other cases, the wood or vinyl that is used are placed in decorative patterns, such as squares, so that the deck has a different appeal to it.While these ground level decks can be built by individuals, it is often a good idea to get a professional to build them, especially if the individuals do not have wood working experience.

Using Vinyl Deck Materials – Steel Kit homes

Written by on July 11, 2009 – 9:13 am -

When building a pool deck, vinyl can be the material to use since it is longer lasting and also safer in that type of an environment.  Vinyl deck materials do cost more at the outset than the more popular wood decking materials, however, they do not have the high maintenance needs that wood has, thus saving money in the long run with your kit homes.Wood requires that there are nails to hold the pieces in place, which often come loose and require replacement.Wood also requires treatment on a yearly basis so that the wood does not rot or warp as quickly in the different weather conditions.  Even with treatment, the wood will need to be replaced eventually, also incurring cost that vinyl decking materials do not.

Benefits of Vinyl

Using a vinyl decking material in a pool setting is better for safety reasons.First, the vinyl decking material will not warp or splinter, thus saving the bare feet of the people using the pool from these types of accidents. In addition, since there is not the need for screws or nails to hook the pieces together, there is not the danger of these materials coming loose and cutting someone that is walking on the deck, especially when there are bare feet around a pool. The surface of the vinyl decking material is textured so that the person’s feet are less likely to slide on them, unlike the wood that can become very slick when it is wet.

The vinyl decking material comes in a variety of different colors that do not fade with time. There are textured or stamped surfaces of some of the vinyl decking material that mimics wood so that the deck still looks like a wood deck even though it is made of vinyl. There are also other colors available, such as white or gray if the individual desires. The vinyl decking material is fairly easy to install as well since the pieces hook into each other and have end caps when there are not any more pieces to hook together. The surface of the vinyl decking material is reflective, which means that it will cause the heat from the sunlight to bounce off of it, rather than absorbing it.This makes the vinyl decking material cooler to the touch than the wood decking, which is also better on the feet in the heat of the summer around the pool.Much of the vinyl has a lifetime warrantee on it as well, which further saves cost in the long run if there is need for replacement.
